Malaysia Visa & Entry Eligibility

Visa-free for 90 days on a Korean passport

Before You Go · 01 / 23

First, the good news. You don't need a visa to set off on this golf trip with a Korean passport. There are still a few conditions to meet, though, and since 2024 it has been compulsory to complete an online arrival card (MDAC) before you travel. This chapter covers visas and eligibility only; the step-by-step guide to filling in the MDAC comes in Chapter 6.

Entering Malaysia on a Korean passport — the essentials

Korean nationals travelling for tourism or a short visit may stay in Malaysia visa-free for up to 90 days. For a 5-day, 3-night golf trip, that is more than enough.

VisaNo visa required for tourism or short visits (visa-free, no advance application needed)
Maximum stayUp to 90 days
Passport validityAt least 6 months remaining from the date of entry (required)
Required in advanceMDAC (Malaysia Digital Arrival Card) — complete online up to 3 days before arrival → Chapter 6
Purpose of visitTourism / golf (employment and study not permitted)
Return ticketHold an onward/return ticket (may be checked on arrival)
i
Passport validity of six months — always check

If your passport has less than 6 months validity remaining from the date of entry, Malaysia may refuse boarding or entry. Confirm your expiry date before you leave, and if you're cutting it close to six months, renew it well in advance.

What to pack before you leave

  • Biometric passport (at least 6 months' validity remaining)
  • Return/onward ticket — printed e-ticket or a screenshot on your phone
  • Resort booking confirmation (Nexus Resort on-site golf hotel · address · phone number)
  • Screenshot of your completed MDAC (see Chapter 6)
  • Itinerary and proof of sufficient funds (if requested — rarely asked)

A few things to watch

① Visa-free entry is for tourism only. Any paid work in Malaysia is not permitted.
② The immigration officer may ask about your return ticket and accommodation. A screenshot lets you show them quickly.
③ The MDAC must be completed even though you're travelling visa-free. Skip it and you may be held up at the immigration hall.

What does immigration ask?

Immigration at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI) usually takes just a minute or two. The officer asks a few simple questions in English. A line or two like the following is all you need to sail through.

🛂 At immigration — a line of English
"I'm here for golf. I'm staying three nights."
"I'm staying at Nexus Resort, Karambunai." (when asked about your accommodation)

Immigration rules can change with either government's policy. Before you travel, we recommend checking the latest information once more with the Malaysian embassy or your airline.
