Kota Kinabalu City Sightseeing

The top sights, a Grab ride away

Extras & Going Home · 20 / 23

This is a no-option package, so your time off the course is your own. If your energy and schedule allow, central Kota Kinabalu is a 30–40-minute Grab ride from the resort. We've picked only the headline sights that won't tax a golfer.

The Kota Kinabalu City Mosque reflected in its lagoon
The Kota Kinabalu City Mosque — its reflection in the lagoon earns it the nickname the 'floating mosque'.

The Headline Sights

Signal Hill ObservatoryThe best view in town — over the city and Likas Bay, and on a clear day all the way to the marine-park islands
Waterfront & night marketComes alive in the evening — seafood, satay and other street food. A meal with a sunset view
Tanjung AruKota Kinabalu's signature sunset spot — beach, Perdana Park and restaurants
Sunset along the Kota Kinabalu coast

If You Have More Time

  • Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park — island-hopping (snorkeling and beaches) in the bay just off town. A half-day outing
  • Mari Mari Cultural Village — experience the culture of Sabah's indigenous peoples

Route tips for golfers

· A morning round, then town in the afternoon or evening works well. On a rest day after a round, a half-day island tour is doable too.
· Travel by round-trip Grab (set the destination in English or with a map pin; Chapters 19 & 21).
· At the evening Waterfront and night market, seafood is the treat — stick to what's fresh and cooked (Chapter 22).
· Dress modestly for the mosque, and arrive at sunset spots 30 minutes before the sun goes down.

i
Don't overdo it

This is a golf trip with several rounds. Treat sightseeing as a light bonus — avoid late outings or heavy drinking that would compromise your form for the next round. The resort's pools, beach and spa alone are more than enough (Chapter 19).

Opening hours, fees and market days (the Gaya Sunday Market in particular runs on Sundays) vary with local conditions. Check them, along with the Grab travel time, before you set out.
