Included Meals · Resort Restaurants

Dinner ×2At the resort or a designated venue (per your itinerary) — Penyu, Kingfisher and others. A recovery meal after the round
Bar & grillThe Splashes pool bar · the semi-outdoor Sunset Bar & Grill · the beach bar (happy hour)
LunchGenerally not included — the halfway house, clubhouse or the Korean restaurant at the course (Chapter 16)
There's a Korean restaurant at the course

The Nexus Golf clubhouse has a Korean restaurant, so a familiar meal before or after your round is always an option. It's especially welcome mid-trip, when your palate could use a change. Check hours and the menu on site.

Breakfast on early tee-off days

If your tee time is earlier than breakfast service, ask the front desk the night before whether an early breakfast or a packed (takeaway) box is available. Playing on an empty stomach is risky in the heat — at the very least grab a banana, some bread or another light bite (Chapter 22).

Kota Kinabalu Specialties (Optional)

  • Seafood — fresh prawns, fish and crab. The seafood restaurants are famous (when you're out on your own)
  • Laksa, nasi goreng, mee goreng — Malay and Bornean noodles and fried rice
  • Tropical fruit — mango, mangosteen, rambutan and more (at breakfast or the markets)
  • Cool drinks — coconut water, a local beer (one after the round)

A one-line guide to avoiding an upset stomach

· Drink bottled water, and judge ice and street-stall food by how you feel. · Stick to seafood that's fresh and cooked. · Overdoing rich, spicy food and drink weighs on the next day's round. Packing some basic medicine (anti-diarrheal, digestive aid) gives peace of mind (Chapters 5 & 22).

The resort is away from the city center

Karambunai is some distance from town, so dining out in the evening means a Grab ride (Chapter 21). Given your schedule and energy, it's also a fine choice to wind down comfortably with a meal at the resort.

Meal inclusions and venues are governed by the itinerary for your specific departure. Let your coordinator know in advance about any allergies or religious dietary needs (halal and so on).
