Driving the Electric Buggy

Buggy controls and cart-path etiquette

Playing Golf · 13 / 23

This package is a self-play round with an electric buggy (cart) included. Driving the cart yourself across the fairways is part of the appeal, but there are a few safety and etiquette rules you must follow. It's not difficult, even if it's your first time behind the wheel.

Cart basics

Starting offKey/power ON → shift lever to forward (F) → ease onto the accelerator gently
StoppingLift off the accelerator to slow down, use the brake pedal to come to a full stop · set the parking brake when parked
ReversingShift the lever to reverse (R) — there's a warning beep. Always check behind you
RidingKeep hands and feet inside the cart while moving; make sure passengers are seated before setting off
!
Safety — these above all

(1) No speeding on downhills, wet grass, or corners (risk of rolling over). (2) Keep the cart away from greens, teeing areas, and bunkers. (3) On marked Cart Path sections, stay on the path only. (4) No driving after drinking. (5) Watch for slippery ground after rain — go slowly.

Cart-path etiquette — keep play moving

  • Where the "90-degree rule" applies: stay on the cart path and only turn onto the fairway at the point where you're at a right angle to your ball
  • Pull up close to your next shot, take 2–3 clubs with you, and step out — it saves time
  • Factor in your playing partners' ball positions and move efficiently in one trip
  • At the green, park the cart toward the next hole for faster play
  • Always obey the signs (Cart Path Only, Buggy Keep Out)
On a hot day, the cart is your friend

On a hot, humid course, an electric buggy goes a long way toward conserving your energy. Keep water, sports drinks, an umbrella, and a towel in the cart, and park in the shade to rest and rehydrate (Chapters 16 & 22).

Cart rules (path-only vs. fairway access allowed) depend on the course's condition on the day. Defer to on-site instructions and signage.
