This package is a self-play round (caddie optional). A caddie is common at Southeast Asian courses, but here you can play self without one, or choose a caddie on site if you'd like. We've also covered the tipping customs for when you do use a caddie.
Self vs. caddie — what's the difference?
| Self (default) | You choose your own clubs, measure distances, tend the flag, and rake the bunkers. With the electric buggy included, getting around is easy. No extra cost |
|---|---|
| Caddie (optional) | Nexus Golf offers a caddie service. Request one on site to be assigned — advice on distance, lie, and green lines, plus club and cart help. Caddie fee + tip separately (cash) |
If you use a caddie, it's customary to give a tip on top of the caddie fee (paid on site). The amount varies by course and country, but for 18 holes you hand a caddie a small amount of cash (a reasonable sum in Ringgit, for example) directly. If you plan to use a caddie, have small-denomination cash ready in advance (Chapter 2). Confirm the exact caddie fee and tipping guidelines at golf check-in.
Self-play — cover these and it goes smoothly
- Use a rangefinder or the cart GPS / yardage markers to gauge distance
- Take 2–3 clubs at a time when you step out to cut down on back-and-forth (Chapter 13)
- After using a bunker, rake it smooth, and repair divots and pitch marks
- Tend the flag yourselves — split the roles with your partners when putting (flag, movement)
- Search for lost balls for no more than 3 minutes; if a group is behind you, wave them through (pace-of-play etiquette, Chapter 15)
Caddie arrangements (whether they're available, the caddie fee, and tips) vary with course policy and conditions on the day. If you'd like a caddie, request one in advance at check-in.
